Liverton United v Torquay United
Man of the match: Karl Baker
(for scoring the winning penalty and great match play.)
On Tuesday 4th December 2012 Torquay United travelled to Coach Road to play Liverton United in the Devon St Luke’s Bowl for a place in the next round away to Buckland Athletic.
The favourites took an early lead in this cup game when Saul Halpin headed a Ashley Yeoman cross into the bottom corner after just six minutes. It wasn’t long before Liverton pulled it back winning a penalty three minutes later when Martin Rice came rushing out and brought down Jordan Lamm. Nick Rudge took the penalty off the post and in. Martin Rice’s smart save prevented Jamie Chamberlain giving Liverton the lead.
Half Time: Liverton United 1 Torquay United 1
Liverton United scored early into the second half with Jamie Chamberlain scoring from a rebound off Martin Rice to give Liverton United the lead for the first time in the match. Liverton couldn’t hold on though as after a couple of big decisions going against Torquay Tom Cruise managed to slip a shot past Ben Hardie sending the match to penalties.
Saul Halpin scored for 1-0, Simon Laughton hit the bar, Niall Thompson scored for 2-0, Daniel Kingscote hit over, Daniel
Sullivan saw his penalty saved, Martin Rice saved Craig Fenner’s penalty before Karl Baker scored the winning penalty.

Buckland saw a goal ruled out for off side early on but a goal was given on 27 minutes when Dean Stevens shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box for 1-0 Buckland. Ten minutes later and James Mudge’s shot deflected of a Hallen defender and past Sam Burgess for 2-0. Jack Barnes had a long range effort for Hallen which keeper Ken Griffiths caught easily.
Half Time: Buckland Athletic 2 Hallen 0
Ten minutes into the second half and Buckland scored for a third time when Simon Revell hit a free kick towards the near post which Mike Booth connected his head on past Sam Burgess for 3-0. A few minutes later Hallen had two massive chances when Ashley Bennett shot wide from close range twice in a minute. Three minutes after and Buckland had another great chance when Ben
Carter weaved through the box past Sam Burgess and then put wide. Hallen hit a free kick just over and just before time a Lucas Burgess cross fell to Danny Lewis from about two yards out leading to a point blank save by Sam Burgess.
The last two minutes saw Buckland score twice when super sub Lucas Burgess scored into the roof of the net at the far post from a cross by Simon Revell for 4-0 and a Lucas Burgess cross sent Gavin Hammon one on one and his shot caught Sam Burgess hand and just trickled over the line for 5-0.

Wednesday 26th December
Welsh Premier League
Aberystwyth Town 0 Newtown 2
A disappointing Aberystwyth Town were outplayed this afternoon at Park Avenue by a resurgent Newtown side, who
ended 2012 with a deserved 2-0 victory which takes them above the Black and Greens in the Welsh Premier League table.
The game started in a fairly promising manner for the home team. Glyndwr Hughes came close to scoring from a Cledan
Davies free kick, and Jordan Follows then hit the cross bar. Declan Carroll showed some nice trickery then fired just wide, as did Follows minutes later. Luke Boundford curled a shot over the bar for Newtown, but then the hosts created a superb move. Bari Morgan fed Follows in on goal, and he delayed his shot, instead laying the ball back to Michael Walsh, whose
excellent cross was headed inches wide by Hughes. Unfortunately, this was as good as it got for Town, and from this point on the visitors were dominant. On 35 minutes Zac Evans found some space on the right wing and smashed the ball past Mike Lewis to give Newtown the lead. Craig Williams then had a shot saved, as did Rhydian Davies for Aber, and Newtown led 1-0 at the break.
Aber did try to respond after the restart, and Follows again clipped the crossbar. Evans for Newtown lobbed over a good chance, but then on the hour the result was settled, when Kieron Mills-Evans scored from a few yards after a goalmouth
melee in which the hosts claimed goalkeeper Mike Lewis was impeded. From here on in Aber were under the cosh and indebted to Lewis for keeping the score down. He denied Evans again, the excellently mobile Boundford, Gareth Partridge
and Mathew Cook. In response sub Christy Gale put in a great cross which no one quite managed to get on the end of, and
Carroll fired over for Aber, but in the end the visitors walked away comfortable winners.
This result will give Aberystwyth Town added motivation for the return fixture on January 1st at Latham Park, Newtown, which kicks off at 2.30pm. The supporters bus will leave Park Avenue at 11.45am.
